ABOUT THE COMPANY
The Young Dance Company is a group of passionate dancers committed to exploring themselves and their world through dance.
Company members, ages 7 to 18, take weekly classes and rehearse on Saturdays, September through May. The company frames its annual season around a theme that immerses dancers in artistic inquiry and produces innovative performances. Dancers work with professional artists to investigate and collaborate on choreography for the selected theme. Their work is presented in venues throughout the year and in a season finale concert each Spring.
JOIN THE COMPANY
To join the company, students must register for one technique class, in addition to the weekly company rehearsal (Saturdays from 12:15 to 2:45 p.m.)
If you’ve never danced before, don’t worry! Company pieces and all Young Dance classes are structured for students of all ages and abilities.

2025/26 PERFORMANCE SEASON
Body as Voice
At Young Dance, each year is guided by a central theme. The theme for the 2024/25 Performance Season was Inner Connectivity, Outer Expressivity, a concept drawn from the work of Rudolf Laban and Irmgard Bartenieff. This theme invited us to examine the vital link between our inner world—thoughts and feelings—and physical expression. By cultivating this inner harmony, we unlock greater ease and authenticity in communicating ourselves to the world.
For the 2025/26 Performance Season, our theme is Body as Voice. In class and in preparation for spring performances, our dancers are exploring how movement can empower individuals to take agency and find their voice—helping them speak up for themselves and their communities. Throughout this season, we ask: How can dance serve as a tool for advocacy? How does the confidence gained in dance translate to other areas of life?
The Young Dance Company performance season will feature new works by:
- Anat Shinar, Young Dance Artistic Director
- Brian Evans, Young Dance Company Co-Associate Director and Teaching Artist
- Matt Guidry, Artistic Director of Upstream Arts
