ABOUT THE COMPANY

The Young Dance Company is a community of dancers who are ready to go deeper, dance bigger, and discover what they have to say.

Dancers ages 7 to 18 train, create, collaborate, and perform alongside professional artists and guest choreographers. This rigorous program combines technique training with improvisation, choreography, creative exploration, and performance, giving dancers the tools and confidence to develop their own artistic voices.

Each season is shaped around a theme that invites dancers to ask questions, challenge themselves, and see the world in new ways. Working with an exceptional roster of professional guest artists, Company members contribute to the creative process and build original work together.

The Company’s primary season runs September through May, with weekly classes, Saturday rehearsals, performances, and special opportunities throughout the year. From studios and theaters to community events and unexpected spaces, Company dancers are active members of the Twin Cities dance community year-round.

Toward Each Other

Every year, we approach programming through a theme relevant to our community and the world at large. This year’s theme, Toward Each Other, continues our exploration of agency, voice, belonging, and community. In our 40th year, we’re also looking at what has carried Young Dance to where we are today, and what we want to carry forward as we imagine the future.

Toward Each Other invites us to consider the many people, ideas, relationships, and acts of imagination that have shaped Young Dance over four decades. Our present is the result of many visions converging, sometimes in harmony, sometimes in tension, and always in motion. As we look ahead, we’re asking what we can learn from that history and how we might move intentionally toward a future shaped by connection, curiosity, and possibility.

Throughout the year, we’ll explore questions such as: What do we inherit, what do we transform, what do we choose to carry forward, and what do we create together? What brings us together, and what becomes possible when we move toward each other?

The Young Dance Company will present their annual spring performance on May 7 & 8 at the Luminary Arts Center in Minneapolis. Check back for updates and more detailed information.

JOIN THE COMPANY

To join the company, students must register for one technique class, in addition to the weekly company rehearsal (Saturdays from 12:30 to 3 p.m.)

If you’ve never danced before, don’t worry! Company pieces and all Young Dance classes are structured for students of all ages and abilities.
