Community Classes
-----------------------------------
Young Dance Classes are open to everyone! Our classes are structured so that dancers can jump in and join a class anytime during the year. Students of all levels and backgrounds enjoy our collaborative and creative approach to dance!
Young dance offers creative movement for preschoolers, modern dance classes for kids ages 7 and up, and a class just for boys ages seven to ten who are interested in exploring dance in a gender neutral environment. Classes are held in south Minneapolis and are open to everyone! You do not have to be a member of The Company to participate in our dance classes.

What is creative movement?
Children are introduced to dance through movement games,
images, stories and music. Students explore all that their bodies can
do and discover "dance steps" of their own imaginations. These classes
are a great preparation for any dance technique class.
What is modern dance?
Our modern dance classes mix traditional technique to develop strength,
coordination and flexibility with an emphasis on nurturing the dancers'
creative skills through improvisation and composition. Through dance,
our students develop a sense of themselves as movers and as thinkers.
What is Boys Get Movin'?
Boys Get Movin' is a dance class just for boys, taught by a
male instructor, where students can engage in exciting full-bodied
movement. With a bunch of rambunctious boys jumping, running, playing
games and goofing, throw in some creativity, brain-building, a sprinkle
of dance technique, and Yoga, it is a class so fun, you might just
forget it's a dance class. Our new Boys Creative Movement, for boys ages 5-7, is a version of this class geared towards younger boys.
What is unique about the Young Dance ballet class?
This ballet class will provide Young
Dancers and other youth an opportunity to learn the grace, extended
line and articulation of ballet with an emphasis on the healthy use of
joints and muscles. It is taught without bodily distortions and a
skeleton will be used to help students understand their bones and
joints for fluid movement and placement. A basic history is included
with the help of photos and videos. Shoes are optional.
