Annika Johansson

Teaching Artist

They/She

Annika Johansson (hear it) is a genderqueer dance artist from Minneapolis, Mni Sota Makoce. Their work draws from their studies in somatic practices, improvisation, post-modern, and contemporary dance forms. They have a BFA in Dance from the University of Minnesota.

Annika has performed with Jeffrey Peterson Dance, Maggie Bergeron and Company, Sophia Pimsler, Alternative Motion Project, SLO Dance Company, Flying Foot Forum, HoneyWorks, ARENA DANCES, and Jagged Moves.

Annika creates dance for both theaters and public spaces, often working with their collaborator and wife, Abigail Whitmore. They presented events at Glam Doll Donuts,  the University of Minnesota Rec Center pool, the Casket Arts Building, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, Red Eye Theater’s Works in Progress, and ARENA DANCES Candy Box Dance Festival. Their movement holds a curiosity for details and energetic shifts, finding deep investment in the sensations of the body.

They have worked as a teaching artist in many different contexts, and are excited to continue connecting with the Young Dance community. Their desire is to facilitate self-awareness and creativity for students of all ages, and learn and be inspired in turn.
