Annika Johansson

Reception & Teaching Artist

They/She

Annika Johansson (hear it) is a genderqueer dance artist based in Minneapolis, Mni Sota Makoce on Dakota and Anishinaabe land. They graduated from the University of Minnesota with a BFA in Dance. Their work draws from their studies in somatic practices, improvisation, post-modern, and contemporary dance forms.

Annika has performed with Jeffrey Peterson Dance, Maggie Bergeron and Company, Sophia Pimsler, Kristin Howe and Joanna Lees of Alternative Motion Project, Emma Marlar, and SLO Dance Company. With their collaborator and wife, Abigail Whitmore, they have created works for Glam Doll Donuts, the University of Minnesota Rec Center pool, the Casket Arts Building, the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, for Red Eye Theater’s Works in Progress, and ARENA DANCES Candy Box Dance Festival. Their aesthetic holds a curiosity for detailed movements and energetic shifts, finding deep investment in the sensations of the body.

They have worked as a teaching artist in many different contexts, and are excited to connect with the Young Dance community. Their desire is to facilitate self-awareness and creativity for students of all ages, celebrating how movement connects us.
