We are also planning a presentation and art show in Midwest Special Service Art Gallery in Lowertown, St. Paul on August 5-6.

We invite teens and young adults, with and without disabilities, to engage in a weeklong investigation of ways that dance and other creative arts can activate inclusive communities. Through visual arts, music, writing and dance, participants will come together and explore who they are as young people, artists, citizens, and as members of a community.

Each day will begin with a physical warm-up to enliven each individual’s own movement vocabulary and build an understanding of the movement capacity amongst the group.  In subsequent workshops each day, participants will respond to questions posed about community through movement, drawing, writing and sound.  Participants will digest their responses in dialogue, collaborative creating, sharing their own work, and responding to others. Workshops with other art and community organizations, Patrick’s Cabaret, Semilla Center for Healing and the Arts, Upstream Arts and Highland Friendship Club will build our understanding of ways the arts intersect with community. The material generated through all of these experiences will be crafted into a performance for the greater community at the conclusion of the week.
